Antonio M. Pereira Jr.

New Bedford - Antonio M. Pereira Jr., age 76, died on Thursday, February 11, 2010 at St. Luke's Hospital, after a brief illness. Antonio was the husband of Gracinda (Pinheiro) Pereira. He was the father of Arthur Pereira of Fairhaven, Alexandra Pereira of New Bedford and George Pereira of New Jersey. Antonio was the brother of Elizabeth Rocha of Connecticut, Gracinda Senos of New Jersey and Fernanda Cunha of New Bedford. Mr. Pereira was the grandfather of Michael Pereira and Rachel Pereira and great- grandfather of Jose Silva Jr.

Mr. Pereira was a son of the late Maria (Calisto) and Antonio M. Pereira. He was born in Avaro, Portugal and lived in this area for the last 43 years. Antonio worked as a fisherman for most of his life. He was a former member of the Fisherman’s Club and enjoyed dancing with family and friends every Saturday at Cafe Portugal.

Mr. Pereira’s funeral will be Monday at Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. at 8 A.M with a Mass of Christian Burial at St John the Baptist Church at 9 A.M. Visiting hours are Sunday from 5 to 8 P.M. In accordance with his wishes he will be cremated.
