Edmund J. Sylvia

New Bedford- Edmund J. Sylvia age 93 died Sunday, January 3, 2010 at Alden Court Nursing Care& Rehabilitation Center. Edmund was the husband of the late Clara D. (Duart) Sylvia. He was the father of Rev. Edmund J. Sylvia C.S.C. of Clearwater, FL, Steven F. Sylvia of Boston, MA., Clara Q. Cembalisty of Rochester, NH., George L. Sylvia, Pauline M. Robillard, Wendy A. Mark, Bruce J. Sylvia all of New Bedford, and the late David P. Sylvia. Mr. Sylvia was the brother of Ermelinda Starkie of New Bedford, and the late Manuel, Antone, Ferdinand, James, Louis and George Sylvia, Antone Avila, Mary Mello, Margaret Sequeira, Laura Pereira, Adeline Ferreira and Alice Edmundson. Edmund was also survived by 16 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren and by several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Sylvia was the son of the late Maria (Jorge) and Manuel J Silva. He was born in New Bedford and lived in this city all of his life. Edmund was formerly employed as a quality controller at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. He was a member of the Goodyear seniors and the Holy Name Society of Mount Carmel Church.

Mr. Syliva’s funeral will be Thursday at 9: 30 A.M. A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial will take place at St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 5 to 8 P.M.
