New Bedford-Gilbert Pacheco age 89 years, passed away on Sunday December 6th at Bedford Village Nursing Home. He leaves his wife of over 70 years, Margaret (Espinola) Pacheco. Gilbert was the son of the late John and Mary C. (Medeiros) Pacheco.
A life long resident of New Bedford, “Gilly” was a shipper and receiver at Borg Warner until his retirement. He was a member of the New Bedford City Democratic Committee for over 40 years and also served as a committee member of the Whaling City Festival for over 20 years.
He is survived by his son David A. Pacheco and his wife Barbara, his daughter Carol Grimes and her husband Glen; and three grandchildren John and his wife Dolores; Thomas and his wife Tracey, and Lisa Andrade and her husband Joseph, and six great- grandchildren Katelyn, Jacob, William, Samuel, Sophie Pacheco and Zachary Andrade also three sisters, Theresa Pereira, Dorothy Ferro and Norma Ferro one brother Arthur Pacheco. He was the brother of the late John, Sam, Joseph, Jesse, Carl Pacheco and Connie Motta. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Pacheco funeral will be from Perry Funeral Home 111 Dartmouth St. Wednesday at 8 A.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St John the Baptist Church at 9 A.M. Burial will follow at Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours are Tuesday from 4-7 P.M.
