Lucinda (Cindy) Whelan

Whelan, Lucinda, 90, of Nashua, NH, a former, long-time resident of New Bedford, MA, passed away unexpectedly October 25, 2009, at St. Joseph Hospital, Nashua, NH. She was born in New Bedford on December 8, 1918, a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Nunes) Figueiredo.

Mrs. Whelan was raised, educated, and lived in New Bedford until 2006 when she moved to Greenbriar Terrace, Nashua, NH, to be closer to her daughter and her family. She was a loving wife and devoted mother and grandmother. She was known for spending countless hours reading with and educating children in her neighborhood, as well as her love for crossword puzzles. She enjoyed visiting and watching her grandchildren play. She lived for those she loved and will be dearly missed by those whose lives she touched.

Lucinda was predeceased by her daughter, Sharon A. Eldridge (Cambra); husbands, Francis Cambra and John Whelan; brothers, Charles and Joseph Figueiredo; sisters Mary Figueiredo and Victoria Aguiar; and dear friend George Cardoza.

She is survived by son-in-law Bob Eldridge; Godchild, Sandy Gaspar; sisters-in-law, Amy Figueiredo and Louise Silva; nephews, Barry Aguiar and Mark Silva; nieces, Nancy Anderson and Michelle Kennedy; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Her Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, November 3, 2009, at the Perry Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, New Bedford, MA.
