Maria (Medeiros) Sousa

New Bedford – Maria Nascimento (Medeiros) Sousa, age 74, died Monday, September 7, 2009 at home surrounded by her family. Maria was the wife of the late Gervasio Medeiros Sousa. Mrs. Sousa was the mother of Humberta Raposo, Carmen DeJesus , Marcia Raposo, Silvana Sousa, Ricardo, Antonio and Nuno Sousa. Mrs. Sousa is also survived by 14 grandchildren: Michael, Jaime, Steve and Mathew Raposo, Cherrel, Jeffrey, Brian and Jordan Sousa, Nathan and Jason Raposo, Brenda, Raquel and Laila Sousa and Flavio DeJesus; 6 great-grandchildren: Destiny, Ryan, Alexis, Myles, Zoie and Ava. Mrs. Sousa was the sister of the late Antonio Medeiros, Maria do ceu Medeiros and Zenaida Medeiros. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Sousa was a daughter of the late Antonio and Silvana Maria (DeJesus) Medeiros. She was born in Lomba do Cavaleiro, Povoacao, St. Miguel, Açores Portugal and lived in this area since 1988.

Mrs. Sousa’s Funeral will be from the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. on Thursday at 8 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9 A.M. Interment will follow at St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours are Wednesday from 5 - 8 P.M.
