Maria Jose Borges

New Bedford – Maria Jose Borges, age 87, died Saturday, August 29, 2009 at St Luke’s Hospital. She was the wife of the late Manuel De Amaral Borges. Survivors include 3 sons: Manuel and John Borges both of New Bedford and Carlos, husband of Linda Borges of Taunton, a daughter: Fatima Borges of New Bedford, 5 grandchildren: Robert Correia, Jessica and Sandra DeMelo and Amanda and Noah Borges, a great grandson: Bailey Correia, 2 sisters: Maria dos Anjos Ferreira Moniz of Canada and Margarida Ferreira Pacheco of St. Michael, Azores and a brother: Manuel Ferreira DeMelo of St. Michael, Azores and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Borges was the mother of the late Ana Maria Borges Correia and sister of the late Antonio Ferreira DeMelo

Mrs. Borges was a daughter of the late Jose Ferreira and Maria daConceicao (Moreira) DeMelo. She was born in Furnas, St. Michael, Azores, Portugal and lived in this area for over 40 years.

Mrs. Borges’ funeral will be from the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. on Wednesday at 8 A.M. A mass of Christian Burial will follow at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9:00 A.M. Interment at St. Johns Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited.
