Maria J. "Mia" Melo

Rhode Island-Maria J. “Mia” Melo age 35 died Thursday August 6th at Rhode Island Hospital. She was the beloved wife of Jamie Melo of Dartmouth. Mia was the loving mother of Joshua J. Melo of Dartmouth. Maria was the loved sister of Manuel and Jessica Goncalves both of New Bedford. Mia was the loving granddaughter of Helena Goncalves of New Bedford. She was also survived by her nephews Corey, Nathan and Logen, and her godchildren Karen, Scotty, Hunter and Arianna.

Mrs. Melo was the loved daughter of John and Natalia (Carreiro) Goncalves of New Bedford. Mia was born in São Miguel, Açores. She has lived in this area since 1985. Mia was a legal assistant with the law firm of Horan, McLean and Horan and formerly worked at the family-run restaurant Yor Dogg Mil on Kempton St.
Mia loved the color lime green so in her honor we ask that if you can please wear some item of lime green.

Mrs. Melo’s Funeral will be from the Perry Funeral Home 111 Dartmouth St. on Wednesday at 8:45 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at St. Mary’s Church Padanaram at 10 A.M. Burial will follow at Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Tuesday 4-9 P.M.

Flowers are accepted, or a donation may be made in her memory to benefit her son Joshua’s Education Fund. It is the Maria Melo Memorial Fund C/O Citizens Bank this can be mail or brought to any branch.
