Jose D. "Ze Zunga" Abreu

New Bedford-Jose D. Abreu “Ze Zunga” age 66 years died July 27th at St. Luke’s Hospital after a long illness. He was the husband of Maria L. (Pereira) Abreu of New Bedford, father of John Paul Abreu of Portugal, Sandra Abreu Rosonina of New Bedford and Melinda K. Abreu of Pittsfield, MA. , grandfather of Caitlin, Dylon, David Jr. “DJ”, Devin, Tyler, Daniel, Austin and Johnny. Jose was the brother of the late Maria Celeste Eires. He was also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Abreu was born in Buarços, Figueira da Foz, Açores and has lived in this area for 33 years. Jose worked as a fisherman on several local fishing vessels. He was a member of The United Fisherman Club, Fisherman’s Union, and when not working he was an avid sporting fan.

Mr. Abreu Funeral will be Friday at Perry Funeral Home 111 Dartmouth St. at 8 A.M with a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9 A.M. Burial will follow at Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours are Thursday from 5 to 8 P.M.
