Edward Mendonca

New Bedford-Edward Mendonca age 86 years died Thursday July 2, 2009 at Sacred Heart Home. Edward was the beloved husband of Mary (Sylvia) Mendonca of New Bedford and the late Ermelinda (Mello) Mendonca. He was the loved father of Gale wife of Frank Silvia of Tiverton, RI. Grandfather of Michael and Jim Silvia and Great-grandfather of Jamie Lee Silvia, Kristen K. Silvia, Bryanna J. Silvia and the late Kimberly Jean Silvia.

Mr. Mendonca was the son of the late Joseph and Maria Varao (Ferreira) Mendonca. He was born in Fall River and lived in this area most his life. Edward was a weaver and loom fixer with local textile mills until his retirement. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II he was attached to the 65th Fighter Squadron with the 57th Fighter Group.

Mr. Mendonca’s Funeral will be from the Perry Funeral Home 111 Dartmouth St. Monday July 6th at 8:45 A.M. A Mass of Christian Burial wll be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church South Dartmouth, at 10 A.M. Burial will follow at Rural Cemetery with full military honors. Visiting hours will be Sunday afternoon from 3-5 P.M.
