Alice J. (Lima) Sanders

New Bedford- Alice J. (Lima) Sanders, age 80 years, died Friday, June 5, 2009 at St. Luke’s Hospital after a brief illness. Survivors include her 2 sons: Gregory and Claude Sanders both of New Bedford and the late Edward Josey Sanders. She was the grandmother of Claude Sanders Jr. who is the son of Claude Sanders and Mona Lisa Roderick. Mrs. Sanders was the sister of Jenny Cruz, wife of Peter of Fairhaven and the late Henry "Golfball” Lima, Joseph Lima and Annie Grace. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Sanders was a daughter of the late Edmina L. “Minnie” (Lopes) and Joao Lima. She was born in New Bedford and lived here all of her life. Mrs. Sanders was formally employed as a Home Health Aid until her retirement. Mrs. Sanders was a member of the Cape Verdean Band Club’s Ladies Auxiliary and the Bisca Club. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Assumption Church.

Mrs. Sanders’ Funeral will be at Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St., Wednesday at 9 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 10 A.M. Visiting Hours are Tuesday from 4 -8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited. In accordance with her wishes she will be cremated.
