Maria I.(Pontagarca) Pontes

Norwich, CT. - Maria I. (Pontagarca) Pontes, age 39 years, died unexpectedly in a motor vehicle accident on Friday, May 22, 2009. She was the loving wife of Joao L. Pontes of Westport, MA. Mrs. Pontes was the mother of Justin Pontes John L. Pontes Jr. and Dosia Pontes all of Westport. She was the sister of Maria Connie DaLuz of Bristol, R.I., Francisco Pontagarca of Tiverton, R.I., Carlos, Lourdes, Amelia, Lucy, Cristina and Moses Pontagarca and Victoria Sousa all of New Bedford. Antonio and Manuel Victor Pontagarca Jr. both of Portugal.

Mrs. Pontes was the daughter of Maria Amelia (Costa) Pontagarca of Tiverton, R.I. and the late Manuel Victor Pontagarca. She was born in Terceira, São Miguel, Açores and has lived in this area since 1973. Mrs. Pontes was the proprietor of her own housekeeping company.

Mrs. Pontes’ Funeral will be Wednesday at Perry Funeral Home 111 Dartmouth St. at 8 A.M with a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9 A.M. Burial will follow at St John Cemetery New Bedford MA. Visiting hours are Tuesday from 5-8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited.
