Maria Gomes

New Bedford – Maria (Macedo) Gomes, age 88, died Saturday, May 9, 2009 at Sacred Heart Home. She was the wife of the late Jose Gomes. Mrs. Gomes is survived by her three sons: Jose husband of Carmen Gomes of Venezuela, Emanuel husband of Natalia Gomes of Dartmouth and John husband of Jessica Gomes of New Bedford, her three daughters: Fatima wife of Tony Pontes of New Bedford, Zita Sousa of New Bedford and MaryJo wife of Jorge Lopes of Dartmouth and two sisters: Conceicao Macedo and Neves Abreu both of Venezuela. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Gomes was the sister of the late Manuel Macedo and Laurinda Macedo.

Mrs. Gomes was a daughter of the late Manuel and Maria (dos Ramos) Macedo. She was born on Madeira Island, Portugal and lived in this area since 1977. Mrs. Gomes worked at Aerovox Corp. as a solderer.

Mrs. Gomes’ Funeral will be at Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. Tuesday at 9:30 A.M. With a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial will follow at Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours are Monday from 5-8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited.
