Mattapoisett-Joseph A. Macedo age 89 years died peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones, Saturday April 18th,2009. He was the beloved husband of Elsie (Amaral) Macedo with whom he shared 66 years of marriage, the loved father of Joan Leclair and her husband Paul of Naples, FL., Diane Silva and her companion James Andrade of Acushnet and Michael Macedo and his wife Christine of East Freetown. Joseph was the loved grandfather of 10, great-grandfather of 9 and great-great-grandfather of 1 and was the brother of the late Manuel, John and Antone Macedo, Mary Buckles and Elsie Macedo. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Macedo was a son of the late Manuel A. and Sophia (Luis) Macedo. He was born in New Bedford and was a life long Mattapoisett resident. Joseph was the manger for A&P Tea Company until his retirement and was a Command Sergeant Major of his National Guard Squad at Camp Edwards-Otis Air Force Base serving 36 ½ years for his Country. He served in World War II, Korean Conflict and Vietnam.

In accordance with his wishes he will be cremated.

In Joseph's memory a donation may be made to Community Nurse and Hospice Care 60 Center St. Fairhaven, MA. 02719
