Manuel Correa Mello

New Bedford - Manuel Correa Mello, age 75 years, died March 5, 2009 at St. Luke’s Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Catherine (Mello) Mello of Acushnet beloved father of Michael A. Melo and Paul J., husband of Lisa Melo both of Acushnet, loved Vavo of Jacob, Nathan, Michaella, Matthew and Victoria Melo all of Acushnet. He was the father-in-law of the late Jacqueline Melo and was the brother of Conceicao, wife of Jaime Eleuterio of Canada. He is also survived by a niece Margarida.

Mr. Mello was a son of the late Antonio C. and Maria (Freitas) Melo. He was born in Santa Cruz, Lagoa, São Miguel, Açores and immigrated to Canada in 1952 and moved to New Bedford in 1959. Manny was the proprietor and co-founder of M&C Restaurant.

Mr. Mello’s funeral will be Monday from the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. at 7:30 A.M with a Mass of Christian Burial being celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Church at 9 A.M. Burial will follow at Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours are Sunday from 5 to 8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited.
