Maria P. (Raposo) Couto

Dartmouth-Maria P. (Raposo) Couto, age 100, died Wednesday February 21, 2009 at Brandon Woods of Dartmouth. She was the wife of the late Jose DaCosta Couto. Maria was the loved mother of Herman C. Couto and his wife Sheila of New Bedford. She was the beloved grandmother of Scott Couto and his wife Maria and Tina Serpa. Great-grandmother of Jeffrey Couto, William R. Serpa V, Kylie Serpa, Katie Serpa and Alyssa Couto. Maria was the sister of Regina Camara and Assencao DaCosta both of New Bedford and the late Manuel Raposo and Joao Raposo. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Couto was the daughter of the late Albertina D. (Medeiros) and Joao P. Raposo. She was born in Fall River, she moved to São Miguel until 1947, when she returned to this area. She was a Trimmer at Langshaw Mfg. until her retirement.

Mrs. Couto’s Funeral will be from the Perry Funeral Home 111 Dartmouth St. on Thursday at 8 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9 A.M. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Wednesday 4-7 P.M.
