Gil A. Pontes

New Bedford- Gil A. Pontes, age 87, died Saturday, February 14, 2009 at Brandon Woods of Dartmouth. He was the husband of Cecelia (Vieira) Pontes of New Bedford. Survivors include a daughter Drusilde Mendonca and her husband Ludgero, a grandson Adam Mendonca, 2 sisters: Conceicao Medeiros of New Bedford and Maria Jesus Medeiros of California and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Pontes was the brother of the late Albert Mariano and Jose Cordeiro.

Mr. Pontes was a son of the late Angelina (Amaral) and Jose Cordeiro. He was born in St. Michael, Azores, Portugal and has lived here since 1966. He was a machine operator at Berkshire Hathaway until his retirement.

Mr. Pontes Funeral will be from the Perry Funeral Home 111 Dartmouth St. on Wednesday at 8 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9 A.M. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 5-8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited.
