Gertrude (Sousa) Fonseca

New Bedford – Gertrude (Sousa) Fonseca, aged 86 years, died Friday, January 2, 2009 at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was the wife of the late Edwin J. Fonseca. Mrs. Fonseca is survived by her children Ramona C. Silva of New Bedford, Dr. Raymond Fonseca of Asheville, NC., Carmen F. Alves of Toano, VA., Dr. Juanita Fonseca of Exeter, NH and Casille Fonseca of Webster, MA.; 10 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Mrs. Fonseca was the sister of the late Christine Ramos, Sylvina Sousa, Edward Sousa and Arthur Sousa.

Mrs. Fonseca was a daughter of the late Manuel and Rosa (DaSilva) Sousa. She was born in New Bedford and lived in this area all of her life. Mrs. Fonseca was a communicant of St. Lawrence the Martyr Church.

Mrs. Fonseca’s Funeral will be Wednesday at the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. at 8:00 A.M with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Lawrence the Martyr Church at 9:00 A.M. Burial will follow at St John Cemetery, New Bedford, MA. Visiting hours are Tuesday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited.
