Barnstable, MA.-Emmanuel “Manny” Moniz on July 10, 2008, our family and friends have suffered a great loss. Manny Moniz has fallen to an unfortunate auto accident, the son of Eulalia (Bettencourt) Moniz of New Bedford and the late Antonio Moniz. He was born and raised in New Bedford. Manny was one of a family of eight. As a boy Manny was an active Communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish where he served as an altar boy until the age of sixteen. The big heart and the softest of souls, his presence was always a joy. After attending Mt. Carmel Elementary School, he finished his education in the New Bedford Public Schools. Becoming a man his list of accomplishments are endless, at a very young age he became owner and operator of Boston Coffee and Bagel on Union Street, but that could not satisfy his spirit. His love for the islands and the annual Figiwi boating races lured him to a life on Nantucket, where he enjoyed spending time with many friends. In the winter months he spent his time in Vermont working at various ski resorts and enjoying his love of the outdoors and stood active in the community helping raise money for breast cancer. Whichever direction his spirit carried him he kept in constant contact with friends and family. All of us will surely miss his biggest asset, the warmest smile and the comfort he brought to any room he entered. He, who has sprung from a heavenly seed, today goes back to the heavenly realms.
Manny is survived by his loving fore mentioned mother and will be sadly missed by his brothers and sisters. Mary-Louise Moniz, Rosemary Raposo,Tony Moniz, Suzanne Labbe, Christine Moniz and Matthew Moniz all of New Bedford and Lolly Fernandes who is married to Rodney of Dartmouth. He was also loved by two special Aunts and Uncle; Ruth Machado, Angelina Machado and Joseph Bettencourt all of New Bedford. He leaves behind 8 very special nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly as well as many cousins and friends.
Manny’s Funeral will be Tuesday 8 A.M. at Perry Funeral Home 111 Dartmouth St., with a Mass of Christian Burial being celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9 A.M.. Visiting hours are Monday 2-4 & 7-9 P.M.. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery.
