Mary R. (Borges) Fernandes

New Bedford - Mary R. Fernandes, age 91 years, died Friday, May 30, 2008 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief battle with cancer. She was the widow of Antone Jesus Fernandes and mother of Arlene Fernandes of New Bedford. Mrs. Fernandes is survived by her sister-in-law Annie Fernandes of New Bedford, a niece Susan Whitney of Rochester MA and a nephew Dr. Karl Fernandes of the Woodlands, TX. She was the sister of the late Manuel Frias.

Mrs. Fernandes was the daughter of the late Antonio and Rose (Borges) Frias. She was a lifelong resident of New Bedford and was educated in the New Bedford school system. Mrs. Fernandes was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church and was an inspector-trimmer at M & S Mfg. until her retirement. In her leisure time Mrs. Fernandes enjoyed traveling.

Mrs. Fernandes’s funeral will be Wednesday at 9 from the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Baptist Church at 10 A.M. Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery. Her visiting hours will be Tuesday from 5 - 8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited.
