New Bedford- Manuel M. Rego aged 91 years died April 14, 2008 at home, after a brief illness. He was the husband of Antoinette (Rose) Rego of New Bedford. He was the step-father of Anthony Calouro of Fl., Amelia Yorston of Acushnet, MA., Bernadette Giusti wife of Robert of New Bedford, MA. Mr. Rego was the step-grandfather of Stephanie Gonsalves, Christine Pino, Edmund Tweedy, Bryan Giusti, Matthew Calouro, and the late Scott Zychowicz. He was the brother of Maria Espirito Santo Tomasia and the late Americo, Joseph, Jaime Alfredo Rego, Alzira Amaral and Laura Tavares. He was the great uncle of the late Leah Oliver. He is also survived by 5 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Mr. Rego was the son of the late Manuel and Maria (Leite) do Rego. Born in Furnas, São Miguel, Açores, he lived in this area since 1963. He worked as a general contractor, and was member of the Mount Carmel Choir.

Mr. Rego’s Funeral is from the Perry Funeral Home 111 Dartmouth St. on Friday at 9:30 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30A.M. Burial will follow at Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Thursday from 5- 8 P.M.
