Anibal Medeiros

New Bedford- Anibal Medeiros aged 93 years died March 18, 2008 at St. Luke’s Hospital surrounded by his family. He was the Loving husband of the late Maria Genoveva (Martins) Medeiros who passed away on March 11, 2005.They celebrated 60 years of marriage on December 20, 2004.

Mr. Medeiros was the son of the late Julia (deJesus) and Jose Medeiros. Born in Ponta Delgada Sao Miguel, Azores he has lived in New Bedford for 51 years and was very proud of being an American citizen. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church New Bedford.

Mr. Medeiros was a fisherman on various fishing draggers and was a member of the New Bedford Fisherman’s Union. He was a gentle, loving and kind person with a keen sense of humor. His greatest joy was being with his family; he also enjoyed watching his favorite soccer team (Porto).

Survivors include Jose J. Medeiros and his wife Connie of New Bedford, Manuel S. Medeiros and his wife Rosemary of Dartmouth, Mary F "Mena" Medeiros of New Bedford and Fatima “Tina” Bolarinho and her husband John of New Bedford. Loving grandfather of Lisa, Paul, Gina, Jennifer, Pamela, Peter, Jon, Taylor and Isaiah; great-grandfather of Cady, Torrey, Ryan, Kyle, Nolan, Mia, Alex, Logan, Ava, Abigail, Sophia, Noah and Olivia. He was the brother of Maria C. Martins of New Bedford and the late Manuel Medeiros and Maria doCarmo Patricio. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Medeiros’s Funeral is from the Perry Funeral Home 111 Dartmouth St. on Saturday March 22, 2008 at 8:00 A.M. with the Liturgy of the Word at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9:00 A.M. Burial will follow at Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Friday evening from 5-8 P.M. A Pro-Burial Mass will be celebrated on March 29, at 12 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
