Leonora Cory

New Bedford - Leonora "Lenny" (Almeida) Cory, aged 85 years, died Saturday, February 9, 2008 at St. Luke’s Hospital. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her friends and family after a short period of declining health. Mrs. Cory was the wife of the late John “Jack” Cory Jr. of N. Dartmouth, mother of Sheila Costa of Dartmouth, grandmother of Gregory Costa of Dartmouth and Robin Costa of New Bedford and great grandmother of Dale and Jillian Sylvia. She is also survived by two sisters, Emily Rose of S. Dartmouth and Albertina "Dot" Joseph of Fairhaven and a brother Antone S. Almeida Jr. of New Bedford, as well as several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Cory was also the sister of the late Carminda A. Braz.

Mrs. Cory was a daughter of the late Antone S. and Mary (Augusta) Almeida. She was born in New Bedford and lived in this area all of her life. Mrs. Cory worked as a stitcher in the garment industry. She loved being with and taking care of her family. Her favorite time of the year was always Christmas. Mrs. Cory was generous and kind to anyone who knew her.

Mrs. Cory’s funeral will be from the Perry Funeral Home, Thursday at 9:45 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church in S. Dartmouth at 11 A.M. Burial will follow at Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 4 – 7 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited.
