Laura Blanche (Chainay) Afthemeades

New Bedford - Laura Blanche (Chainay) Afthemeades, aged 77 years, died Sunday, January 20, 2008 unexpectedly at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was the widow of Steven D. Afthemeades formerly of Fairhaven. She was the mother of Karen Monty of Fairhaven and the late Steve James Afthemeades. Mrs. Afthemeades was the sister of the late Alexina Godinho, Raymond E. and Armand H. Chainay. She is also survived by 2 grandchildren: Stephanie and Edward Costa and 2 great grandchildren: Vincent Steven Costa and Ryan Jacob Arruda as well as several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Afthemeades was a daughter of the late Elzear N. and Alice D. (Parent) Chainay. She was born in New Bedford and lived in this area all her life. She was a Dimentional Layout Technician at the Acushnet Co. Rubber Division until her retirement.

In accordance with her wishes she was cremated.

A memorial mass and burial of ashes will take place a later date.
