Jose Martins Coelho

New Bedford - Jose Martins Coelho, aged 62 years, died Friday, December 21, 2007, after a long illness, at home surrounded by his loved ones. He was the loved husband of Gloria (Coelho) Coelho of New Bedford. He was the father of Robert L. Coelho, Derrick L. Coelho, and Jessica Lynn Coelho all of New Bedford. He was the brother of Estrella Couto of Sao Miguel, Odete Cabral, Elena Amaral, Armanda Furtado, and Natalia Linhares all of New Bedford, and Filomena Costa of Providence, Rhode Island. Mr. Coelho is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Coelho was the son of the late Antonio Arruda and Germana (Martins) Coelho. He was born in Ribeira Quente, Sao Miguel, Azores. He has lived in this area since 1970. He worked in a Fish house on arriving from Sao Miguel, then he was a commercial fisherman for 14 years, on the Fish Vessels the Theresa I, Theresa II, and the Matthew J., then he went to work for Cummings Corp. and Quaker Fabric where he had to leave to due to his illness.

Mr. Coelho’s funeral will be Monday at 8 A.M. at Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9 A.M. Burial will follow at Rural Cemetery. Visiting Hours Sunday from 5-8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited.
