Otilio "Viana" Soares

New Bedford- Otilio “Viana” Soares, aged 81 years, died Saturday, October 27, 2007 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the husband of Maria Amelia (Oliveira) Soares. Mr. Soares was the father of Silvina Silva, wife of John Silva of Dartmouth. He was the grandfather of Jonathan and Christine Silva, Robert, Michael and Derek Soares, brother of Rosa Caetano of New Bedford and Ana Lopes of Portugal and father-in-law of Maria Soares of Dartmouth. He was the father of the late Manuel Soares and is also survived by 3 great granddaughters.

Mr. Soares was a son of the late Issac Alberto P. Viana and Joana Maria (Silva) . He was born in Algarve, Portugal and has lived here since 1966. Mr. Soares was a commercial fisherman and a member of the Fishermans Union Local 59.

Mr. Soares’ Funeral is from the Perry Funeral Home 111 Dartmouth St. on Tuesday at 9:30 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Monday from 6-8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited.
