New Bedford - William R. Serpa, aged 91 years, died Thursday, October 4, 2007 at home. He was the husband of the late Anna (Simas) Serpa, who died Sept 22, 1981. A life long resident of New Bedford, he was the son of the late William R. Serpa and Mary (Roderick) Serpa. Mr. Serpa was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church in New Bedford. Survivors include two sons: William R. Serpa III and his wife Lillie of New Bedford and Robert W. Serpa and his wife Martha of Deltona, Fl.; and a sister: Dorothy Cacilhas of Mattapoisett. He was the father of the late Marsha Millington and brother of the late John and Albert Serpa, Mary Enos, Laura Roderick, Margaret Gallagher, Alice Braga, and Mabel Guerrin and the grandfather of the late Michael Serpa and Ian Souza. Mr. Serpa is also survived by several nieces, nephews, 6 grandchildren, and several great- grandchildren.

Mr. Serpa left school as a teenager during the depression to help support his family. His first job was with Fairchild Pharmacy. He was a self-employed business man for many years. Then he worked at Paramount Pharmacy, Guba’s Pharmacy and Rica’s Pharmacy. Mr. Serpa was a loving and wonderful person. He leaves behind so many friends and so many wonderful memories. He will be sadly missed by all who had known him.

Thank you to the nurses and doctors who gave him wonderful care. A special Thank You to Sally his private nurse and Louis his home health aid, for their wonderful care.

Mr. Serpa’s funeral is from the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St., on Saturday at 8 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial at St John the Baptist Church at 9 A.M. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Friday from 6 - 9 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited.
