Dartmouth - Joseph R. Ribeiro, age 84 years, died Saturday, April 7, 2007 at home surrounded by his family . He was the beloved husband of Maria Isabel (Cabral) Ribeiro of South Dartmouth. Mr. Ribeiro was the father of Cynthia Raposa Lopes of Dartmouth and her companion Emile Barboza, and Judith D. wife of Robert Clermont of Edgartown. He was the grandfather of Cheryl Cacilhas of Dartmouth, Ted Oliveira, of Marston Mills, Robert Oliveira of Fairhaven, Thomas Oliveira of Port Charlotte, Florida and Rene Clermont of Martha’s Vineyard. He is also survived by 6 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Ribeiro was the son of the late Jose and Palmira (Medeiros) Ribeiro. He was born in New Bedford and lived in Dartmouth most of his life. . He was a Music Teacher. He had his own music studio in Dartmouth. Music was his life. He taught the trumpet in the school systems of Dartmouth and Westport. He also had his very own band The Jose Ribeiro Trio. He taught many local trumpet players who went into careers in the music field. He played for the local symphonic Orchestras State Band of New Bedford, St. Anthony’s Band of Fall River, Tri County Symphonic band and the Gene Marshall band.
Mr. Ribeiro’s Funeral will be Tuesday at 9:30 A.M. at Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St.,with a Mass of Christian burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, New Bedford at 10:30 A.M. Visiting hours will be Monday evening from 5 - 8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Dartmouth Music Association or Community Nurse and Hospice Care.
