Mary (Alfonso) Barros

New Bedford-Mary (Alfonso) Barros aged 98 years died March 26th at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was the loving widow of John Barros. She was the loved mother of M. Clara Grillo, John P. and his wife Suzanne Barros, and Paul C. Barros all of Dartmouth. She was the sister of the late Alfred, and Ernest Alfonso. She is also survived by 3 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild, several nieces, and nephews.

Mrs. Barros was the daughter of the late Alfred and Senhorinha (Ferreira) Simoes Alfonso. She was born in New Bedford and lived in Dartmouth most of her life until moving to Brandon Woods of New Bedford five years ago. She was a spooler tender in local textile mills. She also worked at C.F. Wing in the custom drapery department. She was an accomplished seamstress. Mrs. Barros was interested in the growth and propagation of Begonias and African Violets. She was a loving caregiver to her parents, children, and grandchildren.

Mrs. Barros Funeral will be from the Perry Funeral Home 111 Dartmouth St. Friday at 10 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church South Dartmouth, at 11 A.M. Visiting hours will be Thursday evening from 7-9 P.M. Burial will be at St. John Cemetery.
