Norris A. Walecka Sr.

New Bedford- Private services were held Wednesday February 21 for Norris A. Walecka Sr., 89, of New Bedford who died Sunday February 18, 2007 at New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home after a brief illness. He was the husband of Mary V. (Boyle) Walecka of New Bedford. They were married for 65 Yrs.

Mr Walecka was born in Acushnet, on July 24th 1917.He was the son of the late Jane (Heaton) and Adolph Walecka. He attended New Bedford Public Schools. He was the Founder and retired chairmen of the board of A. Walecka & Sons Moving and Storage. He was active in the business until his 85th year. He was also Director of the Massachusetts Movers Association for many years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter Jane and her husband Edward Murray of Fairhaven, MA., 5 sons Norris Walecka Jr. and his wife Claire of Fairhaven, Joseph Walecka and his wife Christine of New Bedford, David Walecka and his wife Susan of Guilford,Conn., Kenneth Walecka and his wife Debra of Acushnet, and Daniel Walecka and his wife Anne of Acushnet. 2 Sisters Margery Findlay of Dartmouth, Muriel Hoyle of Acushnet, 1 Brother Adolphe Walecka of Dartmouth. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Brian, Dr. Kevin, and Brett Walecka, Kristen Sosa, Jennifer Sullivan, Ashley and Sarah Walecka, Travis and Kyla Walecka, Christopher and Elizabeth Murray and Nicholas and Bethany Walecka. 5 great Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews .He is also survived by his sister in law Grace Mikina, 2 nieces who he raised Joanne Moniz of Holly Hill Fla. and Frances Swansey of Cape Cod. He was the father of the late Hugh David Walecka and brother of the late Kenneth Walecka.
