Elias Fernandes

New Bedford - Elias Fernandes, aged 79 years, died Monday, January 29, 2007 at St. Luke’s Hospital after a long illness. He was the husband of Maria (Casimiro) Fernandes of New Bedford. He was the father of Elia, wife of Jose Melo of New Bedford, Maria, wife of Jose Arruda of Taunton, Antonio, husband of Margarida Fernandes of New Bedford, Silvana, wife of Antonio Rendeiro of New Bedford, and Joe, husband of Sandra Fernandes of New Bedford. He was the brother of Maria Helena Fernandes of St. Michael, Azores and Antonio de Rego Fernandes of Terceira, Azores. He was the grandfather of the late Ashley Rendeiro. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Fernandes was the son of the late Manuel de Rego and Maria (Soares) Fernandes. He was born in St. Michael, Azores, and lived in this area since 1978. He was a landscaper.

Mr. Fernandes' Funeral will be at Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St., Thursday, February 1, 2007 at 9:30 A.M., with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery. Visiting hours are Wednesday from 5-8 P.M. at Perry Funeral Home.
