Lt. Raymond Botelho

Mattapoisett – Raymond Botelho, 81, died suddenly at home, January 8, 2007. He was the husband of Elsie (Salsa) Botelho with whom he celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on November 30th, 2006.

He was a lifelong resident of New Bedford until recently. He was the son of the late Manuel and Mary (Miguel) Botelho Sylvia, and the stepson of Manuel Sylvia, all of New Bedford.

Lt. Botelho was a Firefighter on the New Bedford Fire Department for 20 years. He was recently proud to pin his grandson, Michael Raymond Michaud, during his induction ceremony to the New Bedford Fire Department.

He was a Marine Corp. Veteran who served his country in World War II, attaining the rank of Corporal.

He was a member of the Portuguese War Veteran’s Senior Club, and the Retired State County and Municipal Employees Association. He and Elsie wintered in Tampa, FL for 20 years.

Survivors include his Widow; two daughters, Patricia (Botelho) Michaud and her husband Michael, with whom he lived in Mattapoisett; Judy Botelho-Kalagher and her husband Patrick of Ashburnham, MA; two sisters, Thelma (Botelho) Gouveia, and Rita O. Sylvia of New Bedford; a nephew Walter Gouveia of New Bedford; and a niece JoAnn Gouveia of NJ.

He was the Grandfather of Michael Raymond Michaud and his wife Cathleen of New Bedford, Jonathan Michaud of London, UK, Matthew Michaud of Mattapoisett, Ashley and Jordyn Kalagher of Ashburnham. He also had two great-grandchildren, Aidan and Michael Raymond Michaud Jr.

111 Dartmouth Street, New Bedford, MA 02740. A Mass will be held at St. Julie’s Billiart church, 494 Slocum Road, N. Dartmouth, MA 02747 on Thursday, January 11th at 10 am.
