Elaine M. Ponte

New Bedford - Elaine M. Ponte, aged 63 years, died peacefully at home with her daughters by her side on Tuesday, November 28, 2006, after a long courageous battle with cancer. She was the mother of Donna Horrocks and her husband Bill and Darlene Latimer and her husband Michael both of New Bedford. Grandmother of William Horrocks Jr., Nicholas Horrocks, Rusty Tavares and Faith Horrocks.

Mrs Ponte was born in New Bedford on January 30, 1943 and lived in this area all her life. She was the daughter of the late Lena Amaral and Antone “Tony Shoemaker” Ponte. She attended Mt. Carmel School and was a communicant of Mt. Carmel Church. She graduated from New Bedford High School with honors and went to work part-time as a secretary at St. Lukes Hospital, a bookkeeper for Hemingway Transport, and as a cashier at Mars Bargainland. Caring for her daughters and then her grandchildren was her “full-time job” and her greatest joy.

Her Funeral will be from the Perry Funeral Home Saturday, December 2, 2006 at 8:00 A.M. with a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church at 9:00 A.M. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Friday from 5 - 8 P.M..
