Venilde Martins

New Bedford–Venilde Martins age 69 died at home unexpectedly Thursday August 31, 2006. She was the widow of Manuel F. Martins. She was the mother of Manuel A. Martins, Natalie Martins-Raposo and her husband Eduardo, Venilde Pacheco and her husband Jose, Manuel F. ”Frank” Martins Jr., James N. Martins, and Robert Martins and his wife Brenda, all of New Bedford, Carol Costa and her husband David of Palm Coast, FL. She was the mother of the late Aldino Martins. She was the Mother–in-Law of Kathleen Martins of FL. She was the sister of Joaquin Sousa, Duval Sousa, Carlos Sousa, and Maria Rosario Barros all of St. Michael Azores. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, and 5 Great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Martins was the daughter of the late Edmund and Natalie (Soares) Sousa. She was born in St. Michael Azores and has lived in this area since 1968. She worked at the Sea Crest Hotel in Falmouth. She was proud to become a U.S. Citizen in 1999.

A funeral service will take place on Tuesday September 5, 2006, at 11 AM at Perry Funeral Home 111 Dartmouth St. Relatives and Friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Sunday September 3, 2006 from 6-8 P.M., and Monday September 4, 2006 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Burial will take place at St. John Cemetery.
