New Bedford-Joseph P. Sylvia Jr. died Tuesday June 13, 2006 at Brandon Woods of New Bedford, after a long illness. He was the widow of Hortense (De Mello) Sylvia.

He was the son of the late Joseph P. and Philomena “Fannie” (doRego) Sylvia. He was born in Nantucket, MA., and lived in this area most of his life. He was a retired Fisherman with our local fishing fleet. He was a Private First Class in the U.S. Army serving during World War II. He was a Purple Heart recipient from action in Vencourt, France in September of 1944.

In accordance with his wishes he will be cremated.
