Manuel Martins

New Bedford – Manuel Martins, age 84, of New Bedford passed away on Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at St. Luke's Hospital with his loving family by his side. he was the beloved husband of Mary D. (Porto) Martins.

Manuel was born in Agua de Pau, Sao Miguel, Azores to the late Maria Dos Anjos (Craveiro) Martins and Virginio C. Martins. He worked for many years as a lumper fish cutter, and also owned a bar. He was a member of the United Fisherman’s Club and loved to play cards and dominoes. Most importantly, he loved spending time with his family.

Manuel is survived by his wife, Mary Martins; two children, David Martins and his wife Virginia and Diane Leconte and her husband Paul; his four grandchildren Taylor Audette and her husband Adam, Reilly Leconte, Reese Leconte, and Regan Leconte; siblings, Rufina Rapozo, Virginio Martins, Armando Martins, David C. Martins, Lucia Parreira and Ana De Matos as well as several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Jose and Joao Martins and Lurdes de Medeiros.

Manuel’s visiting hours will be held at Perry Funeral Home on Thursday, June 29th from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. His funeral will take place on Friday, beginning in the funeral home at 9:00 AM and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:00 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in Rural Cemetery on Dartmouth Street in New Bedford, MA 02740.
