Helena Corey

Fairhaven – Helena (Arruda) Corey, age 93, of Dartmouth passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at Royal of Fairhaven with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Alfred V. Corey.

Helena was born in Ponta Delgada, St Michael, Azores to the late Francisco Arruda and Mariana (Raposo) Arruda. She had worked as a stitcher for many years before retiring, and loved to go on cruises, cook, knit and crochet.

Helena is survived by her step-daughters Eleanor Reismann, Amelia Medeiros and her husband William of Middletown RI, and Carolyn Zuccone of Leesburg, FL; her sisters-in-law Sara Arruda of Dartmouth, Delores Arruda of Canada; her niece Tammy Arruda, her nephew Richard Arruda and many other nieces and nephews in both the United States and Canada.

Helena was the sister of the late Jorge Arruda, Humberto Arruda, David Arruda, Luiza Benjamin, and Maria Souza. She was also predeceased by her first husband Gilberto Moniz, with whom she will be buried.

Helena’s services will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2023 starting at Perry Funeral Home at 8:30 AM to 9:30AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church at 795 Dartmouth Street, Dartmouth St, Dartmouth, MA 02748 at 10:00 AM, with a burial to follow at St. John Cemetery in New Bedford.
