New Bedford – Miguel D. Pavao, age 81, of Dartmouth passed away on April 8, 2023 at St. Luke’s Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Miguel was the beloved husband of Gilda (Raposo) Pavao, with whom he shared 53 years of marriage.
Miguel was born in Pilar da Bretanha, Sao Miguel, Azores to the late Jose Pavao and Ilda (Dos Santos) Pavao. He emigrated to the United States in 1967 and had worked for PJ Keating for 33 years before retiring. He was also a member of the Local 385 Massachusetts Laborers Union for 55 years. He had a love for soccer, especially Benfica and loved visiting his home in the Azores, in which he had done for over 20 years.
Miguel is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Gilda Pavao; his daughter, Elizabeth Goncalves and her husband Eric Goncalves; his granddaughter, Sophia Goncalves and his grandson, Eric Goncalves, Jr.
He is also survived by his siblings, Maria Do Rosaria De Medeiros and her husband Manuel De Medeiros of Dartmouth, Joao Pavao and his wife Lourdes Pavao of Dartmouth, the late Eduardo Pavao and his wife Cindy Pavao of New Bedford, Cecilia Sao Joao and her husband Manuel Sao Joao of North Carolina and Octavio Pavao and his wife Caroline Pavao of Dartmouth; as well as many nieces, nephews and godchildren.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Claudia Borges, NP, Cheryl Pimental, NP, and Dr. Michael Rocha for the amazing job in caring for him. As well as the staff at Community Nurse Home Care.
Miguel’s visiting hours will be held Thursday, April 13, 2023 from 5:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. at Perry Funeral Home. His funeral will take place Friday morning, beginning in the funeral home at 9:00 A.M. and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:00 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in South Dartmouth Cemetery.
