Maria C. (Matos) Bento

New Bedford – Maria C. Bento, age 93, of New Bedford, MA passed away on Sunday, March 26, 2023 at St. Luke’s Hospital with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Antonio Bento.

Maria was born in St. Michael, Azores to the late Antonio Correia de Matos and Cecelia Bento. She had moved to the Unites States in 1978 and had lived in this area ever since. She worked as a fish packer in a fillet company for many years.

Maria is survived her children, Maria da Ludres Cardoso, Antonio Santos Bento and his wife Fatima, Horacio Bento and his wife Fernanda, Maria Jose Frois and her fiancé Michael Rebello, Duval Bento and Paula Bento and her fiancé Jose Amaral; daughter-in-law, Deolinda Bento; her brother, Floriano Correia de Matos; many grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was the mother of the late Jose Fernando Bento, Joao Bento and Natercia Bento; mother-in-law of the late Manuel Cardoso and Virginia Bento; as well as sister of the late Horacio Correia, Maria de Estrela Santos, Clotilde Pacheco, Maria Martins, Cecelia Brito, Joana Masaroco, Maria Jose Ferreira and Hortencia Perreira.

Maria’s visiting hours will be held on Thursday, March 30, 2023 at Perry Funeral Home from 5:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. Her funeral will take place Friday morning, beginning in the funeral home at 9:00 A.M. and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:00 A.M.
Burial will immediately follow in St. John Cemetery.
