Barbara (Larson) Demello

Providence – Barbara (Larson) DeMello, 75, of South Dartmouth, MA, passed away on March 9, 2023, at Rhode Island Hospital after a brief illness. She was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, Richard DeMello.

Barbara was born in New Jersey to the late Gerald Larson and Elizabeth Kelly Larson and was a retired elementary school teacher, having taught special education in New Bedford Public Schools for over 30 years. She believed all children had potential and held her students to high standards. A graduate of SUNY Geneseo, Barbara had a life-long curiosity about history, civics, and all things related to the growth of the United States. In recent years she enjoyed volunteering at Alden Court Nursing Care & Rehabilitation Center in Fairhaven, MA.

Barbara is survived by her siblings, Patricia Curran and her husband Richard, from Maine; Gerald Larson and his wife Cheryl, of Rhode Island; Jacqueline Hutchins and her husband Glen, from New Hampshire; several nieces and nephews; and many close friends.

Barbara’s life will be celebrated on Saturday, June 3, 2023 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth Street, New Bedford, MA.
