Maria Angelina Sousa

New Bedford – Maria Angelina Sousa, age 91, of New Bedford, MA passed away peacefully of natural causes with her loving family by her side on Saturday, December 31, 2022 at the Sacred Heart Home. She was the beloved wife of the late Jose Sousa.

Maria was born in Corvo, Açores, Portugal to the late Joaquim Vicente and Victoria (Nunes) Vicente. She had worked as a housekeeper for Our Lady’s Haven for many years.

Maria is survived by her daughter, Gloria Jorge of N. Dartmouth and her husband Joe Jorge; her son, Steven Sousa of New Bedford; grandchildren, Tim Jorge and his wife Lynne and Christopher Jorge and his wife Amy; great-grandchildren, Tyler Jorge, Grayson Jorge and Emery Jorge; nieces and nephew, Maria Jose Borges and Guilherme Nunes and Victoria Silva .

She was predeceased by her late sisters, Maria Clotilde Mendonca and Maria Aurora Nunes .

Maria’s visiting hours and funeral services will be held on Friday, January 6, 2022. Visiting hours will be held from 8:30 A.M. – 9:30 A.M. and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:00 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in Rural Cemetery.
