Joao C. Rebelo

New Bedford – Joao C. Rebelo, age 71, of New Bedford, MA passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at St. Luke’s Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Natercia (da Ponte) Rebelo.

Joao was born in Água de Pau, Azores and was the loved son of the late Jose Rebelo and Ermelinda (Batista) Rebelo . He had been the owner as well as the cook for both Café International and Café Portugal. Joao loved Benfica, goat cheese and tea and especially loved visiting Água de Pau.

Joao is survived by his wife, Natercia Rebelo; his children, Rui Rebelo, Nelson Rebelo, Osvaldo Rebelo, Monica Rebelo, Jeffrey Rebelo and Jessica Rebelo; 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters in Portugal, Lurdes, Jose, Maria, Lucia, Teresa, Gilberto and Luiz; as well as his best friend, Mark.

Joao’s visiting hours and funeral service will be held on Monday, July 11, 2022. Visiting hours will be held at Perry Funeral Home from 8:00 A.M. – 10:00 A.M. and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in Rural Cemetery.
