Dartmouth - Gilbert (Gilly) William Amaral, age 74 of North Dartmouth, passed away June 24, 2022 after a brief illness. Gilbert was born on January 29, 1948 to the late William and Constance (Mathias) Amaral of New Bedford Ma. Gilly was the loving and devoted husband to his late wife Judith (Dufour) Amaral of 44 years.
Gilly graduated from the New Bedford School System. He had worked in various mills throughout the New Bedford area. In 1968, he and his closest friends enlisted to the Army and was sent to serve in Vietnam. Once out of the service, Gilly worked hard to establish his extraordinary talent in the construction industry. He joined the construction Union and never looked back. Gilly’s incredible craftsmanship gave him the ability to build their magnificent dream home with his loving wife Judy by his side every day. Gilly didn’t stop there with his talents, after retiring, he took on restoring a couple of antique cars that he and his wife loved to go and proudly show them off at car shows all over New England. He was part of a few car clubs. The trophy’s that Gilly proudly won are showcased in what was once a bedroom.
Gilly and his wife Judy loved to travel, especially in the winter time to their Florida home to spend time with their friends. Gilly always made time to help anyone no matter what it was. If you needed that special piece or part for something, just ask Gilly he most likely had it and he gave it to you. He appreciated any help and would always pay it back somehow. He loved spending time with family and friends for all occasions.
Gilly was the loving brother to Teresa (Amaral) Martin of Springfield Ma, and Kathleen (Amaral) Aranjo of New Bedford Ma, he was also the loving brother-in-law to Paula & Dave Bryan of Arizona, Karen & Don Hall of Somerset MA, Mike & Christine Dufour of Rehoboth Ma, He was also the loving uncle to many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Southcoast and Pancreatic Cancer Research.
Gilbert’s visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at Perry Funeral Home from 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. His funeral will take place Thursday morning, in the funeral home, beginning at 10:00A.M. with a service to begin at 11:00 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
