Maria 'Mary' (Isidoro) Caneira

New Bedford – Maria do Carmo Caneira, also known as Mary C. Caneira, age 67, of New Bedford, MA, passed away on Monday, May 30, 2022 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Maria aka “Mary” was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts on September 21, 1954 and was the daughter to the late Ivone (Correia) Isidoro and Artur Isidoro.

She was employed as a seamstress for many years, then held various positions in cafeterias for the New Bedford Public School System for 23 years. In 2011, through Family Services, she became a care giver for her brother-in-law Manuel V. Caneira until her cancer diagnosis.

She thoroughly enjoyed and mastered the arts of cooking, crocheting, knitting, and scrapbooking. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and her beautiful grandchildren. She will be dearly missed.

Her family includes her husband, Antonio V. Caneira; three sons, Eduardo Caneira and his fiancé Christine Wylie, Antonio Caneira Jr. and his wife Rebecca Caneira, Nicholas Caneira and his wife Laura Caneira, all residing in New Bedford. She was the grandmother of six grandchildren, Angel, Antonio, Payton, Logan, Vincent and Izabella. She also leaves behind two sisters, her fraternal twin, Yvonne Viera and her husband Jose Viera of Dartmouth and Juliet Amaral of New Bedford; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday evening, June 2, 2022 at Perry Funeral Home from 5:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. Her funeral will take place on Friday morning, beginning in the funeral home at 8:00 A.M. and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9:00 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in Rural Cemetery.
