New Bedford – Manuel Rego Peixoto, 91, of New Bedford, passed away peacefully on March 16th after a long and happy life.
Manuel was a devoted husband to his surviving wife, Maria Lourdes Peixoto, with whom he shared 65 years. He is survived by his two sons, David Peixoto and wife Lori, and Stephen Peixoto and wife Darlene, of New Bedford. Manuel was adored by his four grandchildren, Anthony and fiancée Courtney Grippen, Nicole, Jenna, and Stephanie.
Manuel was born in Ribeira Quente, Sao Miguel Azores, Portugal and was the son of the late Manuel Rego and Maria do Carmo (Lima) Rego. He came to this country in 1956, where he went to work at Dartmouth Finishing as a Purchasing Manager, retiring in 1993 after 35 years. He enjoyed traveling, working in his yard, and was well known for serving Madeira wine at The Feast. He especially loved being with his family and spending time with his beloved grandchildren.
He is survived by his brother Jose Rego, and his sisters Norbina Theodore, Lucia Resonina, and Adelina Perry. He was grandfather to the late Danielle Marie Peixoto. He was the brother of the late Antone Rego, Maria Almeida, Gloria Glantz. Manuel will be eternally missed by friends and family.
Manuel’s visiting hours will take place on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 from 5:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. at Perry Funeral Home. His funeral will take place on Wednesday morning, beginning in the funeral home at 8:45 A.M. and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church, formerly known as St. Mary's Church New Bedford at 10:00 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in Acushnet Cemetery.
