Assonet – Maria Liduina (Peixoto) Pimentel, age 87, of Assonet, MA passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 13, 2022 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Jose Jacinto Pimentel.

Liduina was born in Ribeira Quente, Sao Miguel Island, Portugal and was the loved daughter of the late Jaime DeMelo Peixoto and Liduina (Linhares) Peixoto. She came to this country in 1966 with her husband and children. Liduina had worked as a seamstress for various local manufacturers over the years until her retirement.

Liduina had a deep devotion to her faith. She openly shared her love that she had for the Lord with others. She always encouraged others with scriptures and words from the Bible. You would often hear her say “God Bless You” and “Jesus Loves You” to everyone she met and knew right until the end. She belonged to the Portuguese Charismatic Prayer group at OLMC Church and was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.

She loved camping and sitting by the camp fire. She loved to cook for everyone, especially her sweat bread and malassadas, always blessing the dough. She loved spending time with the Lord in adoration and spending time with her family. Liduina was well known as Vovo to many.

She is survived by her daughters, Maria daCamara and her husband Gene of Georgia and Nancy Letourneau and her husband Ken of Assonet; her sons, Joe Pimentel and his wife Elaine of Belchertown, MA, John Pimentel and his wife Michelle of Dartmouth and Mario Pimentel and his wife Diane of New Bedford; daughter-in-law, Nora Pimentel of New Bedford; step-sister, Delfina Rosaninha of Dartmouth; her sister-in-law, Martha Peixoto of New Bedford; 15 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her son, Jaime Pimentel and her brothers, Jose Linhares Peixoto and Jaime Sebastiao Peixoto.

Liduina's visiting hours and funeral services will take place on Thursday, March 17, 2022. Visiting hours will be held from 8:30 A.M. – 10:30 A.M. and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 11:00 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in Rural Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Maria’s memory to either the Alzheimer’s Association, the Heart Association or the charity of your choice.
