John Jesus Braz, Jr.

Fairhaven – John Jesus Braz, Jr., age 85, of Fairhaven, passed away on February 15, 2022 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Eileen M. (DeTerra) Braz.

John was born in New Bedford, MA to the late John Jesus Braz, Sr. and Carminda S. (Almeida) Braz. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and the U.S. Marines and served in both, the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He later went on to work for the Union Street Railway and then had gone on to work as a Manager at SRTA, where he worked until his retirement.

John had been a member of the New Bedford Revolver and Rifle Club Inc., a member of the Southeastern MA Amateur Radio Association, the Disabled Vets American Legion Post 166 Fairhaven, a volunteer firefighter for Station 3 in Fairhaven and also a member of the Southeastern Massachusetts Metal Detectors Club.


He is survived by his wife, Eileen Frias Braz; his children, Melinda Lima and her husband Michael, Pamela Sousa and her companion, Timothy Silvia and John Frias and his wife Debbie; his brother, Stephen Braz (and the late Bonnie Braz); 9 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his late brother, Leslie Braz.

Funeral services for John will be held privately for family only.
