Maria Amelia (Furtado) De Sousa

New Bedford – Maria Amelia (Furtado) de Sousa, age 108, of New Bedford, passed away on Sunday, January 23, 2022 at home with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Jose de Sousa.

Maria was born in New Bedford, MA to the late Jose Furtado and Francisca Jesus Madeira. She had been a loving and caring homemaker to her family, whom she cherished.

Maria is survived by her daughters, Maria S. Pereira and her husband Manuel and Mary Connie Baganha and her husband Luis; her grandchildren, great grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter; her daughter-in-law, Maria Ana de Sousa; as well as her nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her late sons, Manuel Amancio de Sousa and Franklin de Sousa.

Maria’s visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 from 4:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. at Perry Funeral Home. Her funeral will take place on Thursday morning, beginning in the funeral home at 9:30 A.M. and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church 10:30 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in St. John’s Cemetery.
