Joseph J. Gomes

New Bedford – Joseph J. Gomes, age 90 of New Bedford, passed away on Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of the late Geraldine L. “Mummy” (Pina) Gomes.

Joseph was born in West Wareham, MA and was the son of the late Albert and Josephine (Mendes) Gomes. He worked at Ocean Spray as a Fork Lift Operator for many years.

Joseph is survived by his 5 sons, Steve Gomes and his wife Dorothy Gomes, Troy Gomes and his wife Elizabeth Gomes, Eric Gomes, Trevor Gomes, Reverend Shane Gomes and his wife Reverend Meika Gomes; 8 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was also predeceased by his late siblings, Arthur Gomes, Amelia Pina, Albina Tavares, Lawrence Gomes, Jennie Alves, Ricky Gomes, Alice Gomes, Tony Gomes and Lena Gomes.

Joseph’s visiting hours and funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at Perry Funeral Home. Visiting hours will be held from 10:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M. with a funeral service to take place at 12:00 P.M. Burial will immediately follow in Rural Cemetery.
