Cape Coral, Florida - Maria Margarida Corte-Real age 87, formerly of New Bedford, MA passed away peacefully on July 7. She was the beloved wife of the late Joaquim P. Corte-Real and the daughter of the late Joao Joaquim DaSilva and Maria Garcia DaSilva.
Born in Horta Faial, Portugal Maria emigrated with her family to New Bedford in 1960. A very talented seamstress, she worked as a stitcher for many years and made many of her own clothes as well as clothes for her grand-daughter and daughter-in-law. Maria took tremendous pride in her home and loved to have family and friends visit and share in her excellent cooking. She will be remembered for the many cakes she made for every occasion.
Maria is survived by her son Ilidio (Lee) Corte-Real and his wife Leslie and her beloved grand- daughter Lauren Ann Palmer and her husband Jeffrey Palmer; her brother Manuel Joaquim DaSilva, her sisters Leonore Medeiros, Noelia Eugenio and Arlinda Andrade and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Maria Hortense Soares.
Maria’s visiting hours will be held on Thursday, July 15, 2021 from 5:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. Her funeral services will take place on Friday, beginning in the funeral home at 9:30 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial at Mt. Carmel Church in New Bedford, MA at 10:30 A.M.
