Maria A. (Almeida) Socorro

New Bedford – Maria A. Socorro, age 84, of New Bedford, passed away on Sunday, July 4, 2021 at her home. She was the beloved wife of the late John M. Socorro.

Maria was born in Horta, Faial, Azores to the late Joao Pacheco Almeida and Amelia Adelaide (Sousa) Almeida and moved to New Bedford in 1968, where she had resided since. She had worked as an assembler for a local electronics manufacturing company for many years.

Maria is survived by her nephew, Jose Antonio Garcia and his fiancé Linda Hirst, great-niece, Jennifer Madeira and her husband Paul; her niece, Denise Johansen, Jennifer Madeira’s mother and her great-great nephews, Cody Oliveira and Nathan Oliveira, all of New Bedford.

Maria’s visiting hours will be held on Friday, July 9, 2021 at Perry Funeral Home from 6:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. Per her wishes, cremation will follow.
